BUSINESS ORGANIZING SERVICES
CORPORATIONS
AND COMPANIES
HOME-BASED
BUSINESSES
According
to the Wall Street Journal (March 1997), the average U.S. executive
loses six weeks per year, or one hour per day, retrieving
information from messy desks and files. This can apply to any
disorganized person. Many, however, believe this statistic to be too conservative.
In today's highly competitive environment, those who learn how to
organize their time, paper (especially files and filing systems),
tasks and space, and eliminate clutter, will be far ahead of their
competition.

Would you like a stronger bottom line? What does it
cost your company every year when disorganized employees
waste one hour per day? The answer is...more than 12%
of their salaries!
For a
$200K executive, it equals the salary of a $24,000 administrative
employee. At $75,000, it's over $9,000, and at $25,000, it's over
$3,000.
For a
corporation with 25 employees each at salary levels of $200K, $150K,
$100K, $75K, $50K, and $25K, the annual cost is over $1.8 million!
For a
smaller company with five employees each at salary levels of $100K,
$75K, $50K, $25K and $15K, the annual cost is over
$159K!
This
doesn't even include direct costs (e.g., repurchasing supplies that
cannot be found or were forgotten, excessive overnight delivery
and late-payment fees) and indirect costs (e.g., inability to expand
the business, general workload or individual tasks due to a perceived
"full plate," poor decision-making due to missing critical
information in files, or belief there is not enough space because
it appears full--when the space is just used inefficiently). Also
not included are lost revenue opportunities. For example, when the
piece of paper with the red-hot prospect's information cannot be
found, or customers turn to your more organized competitors due
to poor or no response, how can the effect on the bottom line possibly
be calculated?
Most
people say there aren't enough hours in the day and can't afford
to waste time - yet most do just that! Too much time is spent on
tasks of little consequence -- and not enough time on what is important.
This creates fewer accomplishments and added stress.
A common trait of successful
executives is knowing how to organize. As efficient time managers,
they make the most of every day and complete their most important
tasks. They have learned effective business organizing skills.

Perhaps
you tried to organize your office on your own. You spent a few hours
on a week- end clearing piles of papers and clutter from every horizontal
surface. You created some files and worked on your filing system.
You felt a great sense of accomplishment and went home. A couple
of weeks or so later, quick retrieval of documents from your filing
system is impossible and your office looked like it did before you
"organized." Why? You didn't organize. You decluttered,
which is just a step in the process. If it were as simple as just
putting away paper and "stuff" to make your space look neat, everyone
would do it. Getting organized is a process that involves several
steps, knowing the proper systems and tools that work well for you,
and routine maintenance.
A dieting analogy
is appropriate. If someone gained too much weight and wants to lose
it, dieting takes time. The extra weight wasn't added overnight
and it can't be lost overnight. Once the excess pounds are shed,
a maintenance diet is the key to sustaining the goal weight. If
old eating habits are resumed, the excess weight will return. It's
the same with clutter.
Every
business can run more efficiently and cost-effectively to improve
its bottom-line results. Access to important, current information
by instant retrieval of documents from filing systems and effective
time management skills are vital. Employing proper business organizing
skills gives your company a critical competitive advantage.
